FOOD WASTE AT HOME.

Ever had a lonely lettuce at the back of your fridge? How about an unloved aubergine? We’ve all been there, with a handful of fruit and veg odds and ends at the back of our fridge that we aren’t sure what to do with. And our latest research found that people in the UK actually throw away 10% of their fruit and veg each week. That’s pretty big, considering nearly that food makes up nearly a third of their weekly food shop.

But we want to change that. We’ve taken our food-waste-fighting mission one step further with Soilmates, the first dating service for veg – just in time for Valentine’s Day.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

It’s super simple. Just pick the veg you need to use up, tell us what kind of dish you fancy (in the mood for something spicy? Or perhaps speed is key.) and swipe through the suggested veggie Soilmates for you. And there’s no need to worry about the love-bombing or ghosting you might get on other dating sites. All the veg here are just looking to meet their perfect match, make delicious dishes together – and have some fun along the way.

Once you’ve picked your veg pairing, you’ll get hand-picked, low-waste recipes to use them up and turn them into something tasty.  It’s a win-win – you’ll get a delicious dinner and help fight food waste, too.

WHAT VEG IS ON THERE?

We’ve made profiles from the UK’s most-wasted veg, according to research. You can expect to see profiles from fennel, tomato and beetroot, to name a few.

WHERE CAN I FIND IT?

Right here, on the Soilmates on the website.

Follow us on Instagram for a peek at some of the recipes, veggie profiles, and a competition. And, we’d love to see all of your Soilmate matches, so tag us using #Soilmates.
