App, App and Away
You asked, we delivered. That’s right, our shiny new app is finally here.
Countless times over the last few years, customers have got in touch with us to ask if we have an app.
“Is there an Oddbox app by any chance?” they asked. “Do you have an app that would make ordering easier?” some queried. “An app would be easier than going through an online page 😊” was suggested. We agreed, to be honest, but as with many things in life, these ventures take time.
Our team has spent the last year designing the app. That may seem like quite a simple task on paper, but there’s so much that goes into it that involves the whole business.
We spoke to our community to figure out what’s most useful in an app and what would make their experience even smoother. Then we had to decide which features would make it in, how they would work, and finally, how they’d look and fit together from first tap to last.
Then there’s picking the colours, shapes and sizes (something we don’t do with your fruit & veg each week), making sure the design is beautiful and consistent too. There’s writing the copy; that’s all the little bits of text you read in the app.
Then the app has to be coded, of course. This involves thousands of lines of code written behind the scenes to create the sparkling design you all see. It was 26,772 lines of code, actually, to be precise. Whilst this is happening, logistics need to be considered too. How making swaps or picking add-ons link to your orders, how everything comes together seamlessly and how we can cause the fewest hiccups possible (if any).
And we’re really proud of where we’ve landed. As well as your regular box summary and weekly rescue list, you’ll be able to stock up on plastic-free pantry ingredients and more from The Market. Plus, we’ve just added a Recipe tab. This means you can scroll through plenty of recipes for some dinner inspiration and then use the app to immediately swap, chop and shop for your weekly meal plan — all in a few taps.
